The Aesculight surgical laser is a major advancement in the CO2 lasers. I previously had worked with the people at Luxar in Bothell, WA when I purchased my first laser in 1991. I started with a 10 Watt laser and upgraded a few years later to the 20 Watt Luxar laser. Today many of the original Luxar team is involved with this new company, Aesculight. I purchased a new Aesculight laser a year ago and have found it to be wonderful to use. This laser has a new waveguide design which gives us much better power output. Also, because it has computer chip inside that is upgradable, I can easily upgrade with just software changes. The software inside also allows for over the phone support and troubleshooting and thus saves having to send the laser in for repairs or troubleshooting. With my previous Luxar laser I used to use the scanner head for several procedures. Aesculight has developed a wide tip for their laser which is much better than the scanner. This wide tip can be changed simply like any other regular tips. One does not have to change the entire waveguide like you do with the Luxar scanner head. This makes it easy to switch between smaller tips and the larger tips. The availability of different tips is a great advantage when using a surgical laser. With the Aesculight laser one can change quickly from a cutting mode to ablating mode. Most of the CO2 lasers are designed primarily for cutting. Ablation with these lasers is very tedious and complicated. In dermatology, most of our procedures require wide field ablations; cutting is not used as often, so this Aesculight laser is an excellent choice for the skin. Aesculight is the company with its headquarters in the USA. They build the laser entirely in the US, in compliance with and exceeding all the US standards. This laser is of the highest quality and is built to last. It is a laser with engineering that you can rely on, by people who you can trust. This laser is far superior both in quality and safety to all of the foreign built lasers that are on the market.
